Volunteers are the lifeblood of FIRST, keeping the regionals, challenges, and other events running smoothly. Without volunteers as mentors and competition staff, there would be no FIRST.

Volunteer Jobs

Throughout the regional competitions and the National Championship, there are many jobs that are taken up by the generous volunteers of FIRST. Here are a few general jobs that exist at any FRC, FTC, or FLL competition.

  • Referee (including any Head Referees if required)
  • Inspector
  • Queuer
  • Master of Ceremonies
  • Pit Admin
  • Field Control
  • Score Keeper

There exists many other volunteer jobs though these vary per organization and are quite numerous. A list of the volunteer positions available here.

Volunteering

FIRST is dedicated to promoting safety, and security, for participants, volunteers, and staff who attend FIRST events. The procedures established protect you as volunteers, and FIRST as an organization.

Age requirements for volunteers:

  • Event volunteers must be 13 years of age, however, some events set a higher minimum age requirement
  • FIRST Headquarters volunteers must be 16 years of age or older
  • FIRST Place volunteers may be 13 years of age or older
  • Under 18 years of age, parent/guardian permission is required to apply through FIRST Volunteer Information and Matching System (VIMS).
