Maize Craze

Maize Craze was the name of the 1992 season FIRST game. This was the first ever FIRST game. There were 28 teams that participated in a high school gym in New Hampshire.

Field Layout

The field was square (16 feet by 16 feet) and covered with a 1.5 inch deep layer of corn kernels. 150 scoring objects (tennis balls) were placed in the center of the field. Additionally, two 25 and two 10 point balls were on posts (36 inches high) in the corners of the field.

Game Description

Get as many points as you can by collecting and returning tennis balls into your scoring area. There were 4 robots on the field at a time, and they started in the 4 corners of the field. The matches were two minutes long.

• Robots were tethered for control.
• A dot matrix printer was included in the Kit of Parts until 1995.

• Weight limit was 11kg (22.4 lbs)
