History

Our team formed in 1992 with the inception of FIRST. During that time, the team has become well known and respected both regionally and nationally by its fellow competitors. The team has earned many awards ranging from good sportsmanship, the prestigious local Chairman's Award, to 1st place in competitions. We participate every year in the BAE Granite State Regional. This competition is held annually at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire. We also participate in the national competition when we can and other regionals in the surrounding states.

Over the years we have built up many friendships; not only with other teams but with local businesses. You can Read More about these partnerships in our sponsors section.

We are proud to be one of the original FIRST Teams. We have carried this pride from year to year. Our school, Manchester West High School, is the current holder of the longest running post season game which we call River Rage. You can Read More about this competition at our River Rage page.

Team projects

River Rage

Each year in September, after the Regionals and the Nationals have ended, River Rage is held. Though not an official FIRST competition, it gives teams the ability to show off their robots to the public and a chance to play the game one last time.

Founded in 1997, River Rage is the oldest post-season competition! River Rage was founded by the 3 Manchester Public High Schools, Manchester High School West, Central High School, and Memorial High School and was held each year in our School, West, but has moved to Memorial High School in the past few years. The day before the competition is an all-nighter, as we are usually up late into the night building the field and setting up for a great competition.

Sponsors

FCI USA Incorporated

FCI USA Inc., home of Burndy Products, is an electrical interconnect company with manufacturing locations, sales offices, agents, and distributors located in more than 80 countries throughout Europe, the Americas, and Asia. FCI's New England locations design, manufacture and ship electrical connectors for splicing, tapping, and termination of cable using a system of tools designed for their individual application.

The partnership between FCI and West High School began as part of FCI's increased efforts to become more involved with the community. At the same time, the West F.I.R.S.T. Team was looking for a new corporate partner; thus began a winning relationship between FCI engineers and West High students. This partnership began with the goal of building a robot capable of competing in local regional and national competitions while completing the tasks outlined in January at the kick-off of each season's competition. Everyone soon learned the F.I.R.S.T. program is about "more than building a robot." Engineers learned about mentoring and deadlines, while students learned about engineering and professionalism. Both FCI and West look forward to a long and rewarding partnership.
