History

Mega Awesome Robotic Systems was founded in 2004 by Jim Zachariah, with extensive help from team 179 Children of the Swamp. Mr. Z is in charge of the Engineering Academy at Jupiter High School.

The team's motto is "Work hard; think harder" and its cheer is "MEGA...AWESOME!!!".

The team's website URL changed from http://www.kickbot1523.com to http://www.marsbot.org in late 2005.

In the 2006 season, team MARS placed second in the Florida Regionals. The team moved onto the national competition where it placed 8 out of all alliances in the Galileo division.

At the 2007 Florida Regional MARS made it to the alliance pairings, and lost to the winning alliance in the first round, but we won the second highest honor in a FIRST robotics regional competition, The Regional Engineering Inspiration Award.

At the 2007 FIRST Championship we placed 4th in the Curie division meaning we where in the top 16 teams in all the championship event

At the 2008 Florida Regional MARS was seeded fifth and lost in the quarter-finals. MARS also won the prestigious Chairman's Award at the Florida Regional for their extensive community outreach.

For the 2009 season, MARS expanded to include William T. Dwyer High School too. Mr. Mike Sagen (aka The Sagenator) succeeded Mr. Z. as teacher sponsor for the 2009 season.

At the 2009 Florida Regional, MARS was seeded 35th and won the Judges' Award for its unique combination of team spirit, outreach, and successfully dealing with new leadership and build space. For the first time, MARS give out pit awards to other teams for categories like "Best Uniform" and "Unique Scoring Mechanism."
